2020:
A YEAR IN REVIEW

Green Goderich has been busy this year, check out what we have completed in 2020:

  • Carbon Footprint presentation by Brian McCulloch and Con Melady in January
  • Bring Your Own Bag window clings were distributed to businesses throughout Goderich (with plans to also distribute to Blyth and Clinton, put on hold due to COVID-19)
  • Nuclear Energy presentation by Bob Budd, Dr. Mike Dawson and Dr. Grant Dawson in March
  • New members: Yasmeen Chamas, Youth Representative (who has since left for school) and Dean Whalen, General Representative
  • Our Co-Chair, Betty, had a constructive conversation with Lisa Thompson about environmental issues
  • Entered into negotiations with the Town of Goderich in regards to municipal composting, becoming a Blue Community, and instating an anti-idling bylaw
  • Creation of a YouTube channel and educational videos: How to Recycle Properly, How to Compost
  • Sustainable Investments webinar by Dean Whalen in May
  • Proportional Representation webinar by Arleigh Luckett from Fair Vote Canada in September
  • Green Your Holidays webinar in November with the whole Green Goderich core team, input from members, comedy from Scott Cowan, and musical entertainment from Mary Smith
  • Collaborated with Grey Bruce Climate Action for event advertisement and online discussions
  • Shoe Strike for Climate Action in September with over 100 shoes in "attendance"
  • Collaboration with Maitland Valley Family Health Team and Rural Response for Healthy Children to design and run the Goderich Community Garden (set to be in use in 2021)
  • Weekly Tip Tuesdays on Facebook
  • Promotion of local, sustainable businesses on Facebook
  • Regular letters and articles in the Goderich Signal Star
